“Follow your dreams and work hard. Hard work always pays off. Maintain your self-confidence and stay focused. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it.”
Tracy McGrady |
 |
It was the summer of 1996 and Tracy McGrady was a rising senior headed to Mt. Zion Academy. After having a stellar season at Auburndale High School as a junior, Tracy was still an unknown to the basketball world until his performance at the Adidas ABCD Camp; where the best high school players in the nation are invited annually. Among the 175 top athletes in the nation, Tracy wore #175; however, he was an unranked, unknown, but he had talent and mad skills.
One by one, some of the nation’s top and well known athletes fell to this unknown star from Auburndale, FL. By the end of the camp, Tracy catapulted to #1 and was named High School Player of the Year by USA Today in 1997. Because of his commitment, perseverance and his tremendous work ethic, Tracy’s rank of 175 ultimately became a critical building block that landed him as the 9th overall pick for the Toronto Raptors during the 1997 NBA Draft. |
